After a long winter of hibernation, the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore is set to emerge for the 2009 season on Saturday.
The gates to the Druid Hill Park attraction open at 10:00 a.m., and this weekend admission is just $7.00. On opening day visitors can participate in a variety of chats with animal keepers and feast their eyes on Hassan, the zoo's new male lion. This summer, the zoo's new prairie dog habitat (which includes prairie chickens), is scheduled to open.
Saturday's forecast calls for temperatures in the mid 50s with plenty of sunshine, which should make both the zoo's visitors and its inhabitants happy.

Hi, thanks for writing about the Zoo opening! I just want to clarify that the prairie dog exhibit won’t be open until mid-summer. Construction will begin soon. Come visit!
Thanks for the clarification Jane, I tweaked the blog entry to reflect the fact that the prairie dog exhibit won’t open until the summer.
