Best of Luck, Brooks

Wednesday May 13, 2009

Legendary Orioles third baseman Brooks Robinson revealed yesterday that he has undergone treatment for prostate cancer.

"It was diagnosed very early, and I underwent 39 radiation treatments," Robinson said during a luncheon for the American Cancer Society. "I feel healthy and fine, and I'm grateful that I was vigilant about my health."

The iconic Robinson, 71, is one of six Orioles in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Though he played before my time, I am acutely aware of how graceful he was in the field, and how classy he was - and is - off it. I've had the opportunity to interview him a few times, and on each occasion he couldn't have been more genial or generous with his time.

Brooks, myself and all Baltimoreans hope that you're as healthy and happy as ever.
