It's a festival-heavy weekend in Baltimore.
Friday
Defenders' Day begins - The weekend of festivities starts with a ceremonial procession of War of 1812 “soldiers” from the Star-Spangled Banner Flag House to the Inner Harbor, followed by a ceremony at the amphitheater. After the ceremony the reenactors will board sailing boats and return with the 30’x42’ replica flag to Fort McHenry. Events continue Saturday (with fireworks around 9 p.m.) and Sunday.
Saturday
Pigtown Festival - A neighborhood festival with a twist - the Running of the Pigs. Held on the 700 and 800 blocks of Washington Blvd., the festival features 12 local bands on two stages, food, beer and wine, and arts and crafts. Hours are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Koren Festival - Traditional dance, food, and games. Held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m . at the War Memorial Plaza downtown.
Saturday and Sunday
Ukrainian Festival at Patterson Park - Baltimore's two-day celebration of Ukrainian culture and heritage. Fun for people of all ethnic backgrounds, the annual festival at Patterson Park features music, food, drink, and art from the Ukraine. Among the festival's highlights each year is of course, the world famous (or at least city famous) pierogi eating contest. Starts at noon, admission is free.
Sunday
Football! - The Ravens open the season against the Kansas City Chiefs at M&T Bank Stadium, at 1 p.m. If you can't make it to the game, check it out at one of these great bars for watching football.
