If the 21st century has taught us anything thus far, it's that people love lists.
On TV or online, no matter how subjective or arcane they are, they seem to consistently create conversation and controversy.
I heard about The Daily Beast's list of America's smartest cities from a friend who heard it on the radio. Ironically, when I asked her who No. 1 was, she texted me, "Raliegh." She's a very smart person, so I'll chalk up her misspelling of Raleigh, North Carolina, to the fact that she was driving while she texted.
If you're interested, here are a few other lists that have recently come out. Baltimore seems to be a solid No. 10 in whatever category you're listing. That's where we came in on CNNmoney.com's list of best cities to launch a small business.
We also recently came in 28th on the Sporting News' list of Best Sports Cities. Pittsburgh was No. 1, which is tough to argue with, but ranking Baltimore behind Salt Lake City/Provo (No. 19) and San Jose/ Palo Alto/ Santa Clara? Strikes me as a little bit odd.
What's your take on these lists?
