Baseball is Back Today...

...in Florida. But today represents one big step toward it returning to Baltimore.

The Orioles kick off their spring training schedule this afternoon with a game against the Tampa Bay Rays in Sarasota, the Birds' new spring home.  This season holds more promise than any of the past dozen, which all ended with the O's sporting a losing record.

Don't get me wrong - the mountain of success still is tall and will be hard to climb (especially in a division with the Yankees and Red Sox), but the team has a legitimate stable of young, talented players who actually give the fans hope for the future.

Matt Wieters, Nolan Reimold, and pitchers Brad Bergesen, Brian Matusz, and Chris Tillman are among the team's young stars. I'll be posting a full O's preview before the first game on April 6 (the home opener at Camden Yards is April 9), but I'll tell you right now, I'll be disappointed if the team isn't sniffing .500 by mid to late September.

Play ball!
