This story in The Sun caught my eye, as will the billboards created by the young artists featured in it.

Students at Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts in Dundalk worked with graphic designers last fall on Design Ignites Change, a nationwide initiative to place student images and messages on billboards. They created slogans, logos and drawings for the project. Five designs from Patapsco students were eventually made into billboards that will be up around Baltimore through the end of this month.

Most of the billboards are centered around the themes of tolerance and acceptance. I've driven past the one at North Calvert and East Federal streets near Penn Station, and let me tell you, the artwork is remarkable.

Other locations include:

  • "Make Up Doesn't Make Me," at Dundalk Avenue at Gusryan Street.
  • "Welcome to Diversity Baltimore," at East Federal Street near Erdman Avenue.
  • "Tone Up the Tolerance," at Curtis and East Patapsco avenues.

It's really a cool project, so keep your eyes peeled next time you're driving in the city.
