More Dining Options for People with Food Allergies

As anyone with a gluten allergy or on a vegan diet can tell you, dining out with a dietary restriction can be a headache. Luckily, more and more restaurants in Baltimore are beginning to cater to those with special needs. Just this week, two restaurants that serve gluten-free foods have come to my attention:

  • One Dish Cuisine in Ellicott City uses a color-coded system to identify top allergens, including casein free (no lactose, milk, and dairy), soy free, egg free, corn free, fish free, and animal product free. What's more, the restaurant has dedicated equipment and adheres to a strict plan to ensure no cross contamination of products (thanks Fox45 for the tip!).
  • Two Boots Pizza near University of Baltimore and MICA now offers 10-inch gluten-free pizzas. The restaurant also carries many toppings that are gluten-free, including veggies and pepperoni, which is not always free of the allergen.
  • Golden West Cafe in Hampden now has a special gluten-free menu.

If you have a food allergy or are hosting someone with one and need to find some other options and resources, check out About.com Baltimore's guides to gluten-free Baltimore, vegetarian and vegan Baltimore, and kosher Baltimore.
