A 290-pound male elephant calf was born at 9:07 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2008 at The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. The mother, 24-year-old Felix, delivered the calf in the Elephant Barn after a relatively short labor. This is the first baby elephant ever born at the Baltimore Zoo. At this point the baby does not have a name and is not on public display.
