For St. Patrick's Day every year Claddagh Pub sponsors the Meet in the Street party.
The menu is Chesapeake Bay cuisine with a bit of Irish flair. The rack of lamb, for example, is topped with an Irish whiskey and rosemary demi-glaze. But the greenest thing here (but not in an Irish sense) is the nice selection of salads. Look for steaks, crabcakes, chicken Chesapeake and a few pastas among the entrees, which range from $15-$23.
Irish smoked salmon is the Emerald Isle specialty on the starter menu, which includes other area favorites like hot crab dip, steamed shrimp and wings.
Well over a dozen sandwiches ($6-$10), including hot corned beef on rye, make this a popular lunch spot. The half-pound burger is pile with mushrooms and onions and in addition to the crabcake, Baltimore's favorite crustacean is served in lump form on English muffin with melted cheese.
Taking up two rowhouses in O'Donnell Square, Claddagh is segmented into several different spaces, all of which have slightly different vibes. The front bar is packed with a friendly folks who, between sips, like to keep one eye on the comings and goings at the door. On weekends you'll have to push through to get to the dining areas or stairs.
Upstairs an open room with pool tables and every manner of beer advertisement is decidedly more casual than the downstairs. Here groups of friends tend to hang out together, paying little attention to
Tucked away in a corner of the upstairs is a small room with a bar. This room with an elegant but less imposing bar than downstairs and a few small tables lit with candles might be called the quiet room though only relative to the rest of the place. While it's a nice place for an intimate conversation, the downside is the bar here doesn't serve any draught beers.
DJs or live music start after 10 p.m. most nights. Nearly a dozen beers are on tap and almost as many wines are offered by the glass.
