March 17 falls on a Monday in 2008, making it a weekend-long affair for some. The St. Patrick's Day Parade is March 16. Before the parade, runners in the Shamrock 5K race along the parade route to Power Plant Live!, where a cold beer awaits.

What's Happening

Where to Eat

A sure bet this March 17 is that just about anywhere you go you'll find corned beef and cabbage on the menu. But why go somewhere that serves it only once a year? Check out one of these Irish restaurants in Baltimore that offer Irish food and drink all year long.

Though not as long-standing as the parade, a more recent Saint Patrick's Day tradition is the Canton's street party sponsored by Claddagh Pub. On Mar. 16-17, the bars of O'Donnell Square in Canton spill out onto the street – rain or shine.

One Baltimore St. Patrick's Day tradition not on any calendar this year is a performance by O'Malley's March. It had become a custom for the then- mayor pumping out his brand of Celtic rock every March 17. But in 2005, Martin O'Malley hung up his guitar to focus on his day job, namely running for governor.
