With a name like O'Donnell Square, you know this nightlife district in Baltimore's Canton neighborhood has to have a great St. Patrick's Day celebration. And if you know a little more about the area -- namely that it's filled with bars and restaurants -- there should be no doubt in your mind.
The annual Meet in the Street St. Patrick's Day celebration in O'Donnell Square is sponsored by the square's resident Irish bar and restaurant Claddagh Pub but all the other bars and restaurants join the fun. Some like Claddagh and its neighbor sports bar Looney's Pub have outdoor tents set up in street. But others like Nacho Mama's on the other side of the small green median that splits O'Donnell Street party indoors.

They mean what they say when they call it "Meet in the Street." The tents are in the street not on the median, which is filled with crisscrossing bar-goers on their way to the next watering hole as well as marketers giving away new products. Inside the tents you'll find all the comforts of an indoor pub -- heaters, beer, food, music, and even plasma TVs (it is March Madness basketball season after all). Pit beef and other sandwiches are usually on the bill of fare outside, rather than the pub's regular menu.
The celebration is officially a two-day affair (rain or shine), St. Patrick's Day and the day before. However, when St. Pat's Day falls on or near a weekend (as in 2008), the reveling can start before the tents are set up.

In the "outdoor beer garden," look for live music and DJs plus Irish food and drink.
On Monday, March 17, radio station 98 Rock will broadcast its morning show, beginning at 6 a.m., from Looney's during its "Beer & Bacon" St. Patrick's Day event. Yes, that's right start your morning off right with a free buffet at Looney's to go with your beer.
Also on Monday, Looney's will run a shuttle between its Canton and Bel Air locations.
