Spectators and participants become one. Some marchers work on lanterns weeks in advance at Creative Alliance workshops during October, while others show up on the night of the Halloween Lantern Parade (always the Saturday before Halloween) with their own lit contraptions to join the fun. Still other wait atop the hill to see the lit caravan wend its way through the park.
For the parade itself, which is sponsored by non-profit arts group Creative Alliance and Friends of Patterson Park, there is no advance registration, so organizers are never sure how many will march.
