Always the Saturday before Thanksgiving, Baltimore's Thanksgiving Parade kicks off the holiday season with a visit from Santa. The parade goes down Pratt Street through the Inner Harbor.

When:

Saturday, November 17, 2007, 11 a.m.

Where:

Inner Harbor, Pratt Street
Baltimore's Thanksgiving Parade begins the intersection of Pratt and Paca streets, continues east on Pratt Street and disbands at Pratt Street and Market Place, near PowerPlant Live!. The reviewing stand is at Pratt and Light streets.

What to Expect:

Why Santa, of course. The big guy swings into town in style, arriving in a horse-drawn (I guess Baltimore is too warm for the reindeer) carriage. Then, after the parade, he stops in the Christmas house in the Harborplace Amphitheatre area to pose for photos and take orders.

But also look for marching bands, drum and bugle corps, equestrian units, clowns, floats and giant balloons. In 2007 Batman, Ronald McDonald, Pets on Wheels, Mrs. Maryland & Miss Teen 2007, and Soap Box Derby Race Cars are among the units scheduled to entertain the crowd of usually 10,000 or so that lines Pratt Street.

Also this year the Chesapeake Synchronized Skating & Mini Float performs to traditional holiday songs. And the Night of 100 Elvises return with its annual tribute to the king of rock and roll. , along with members from the Miss Maryland Teen America program ride elegantly waving to the crowd. The Catholic High School Cheerleaders, USA Cheerleaders, and Black Rose Twirlers of Pennsylvania show their stuff for the crowd. Equestrian units, the Baltimore City Mounted Police and Shining Eye Percherons, greet youngsters along the parade route.

The parade unit of title sponsor Harborplace & The Gallery brings the return of Harborplace & The Gallery Street Performers, who entertained at the Harborplace Amphitheatre all summer, plus Gingerbread man mascot from Cookie Occasions, Aunti Anne’s “Twistee,” and Marble Slab Creamery’s 8-foot ice cream cone.
