Decorating for Halloween in Baltimore

From , former About.com Guide

Anyone who has spent even one holiday in Baltimore knows that Charm City residents like to decorate. Some might say Baltimore's decorating flair goes beyond the bounds of good taste. What do they know?

Holiday decorating in Baltimore is by no means limited to Christmas. Folks will decorate for Halloween, Easter, Valentine's Day and so on. Halloween in Baltimore is right up there with Christmas for some. And nowadays the decorations are so much fun. These are some of my favorites:

Halloween String Lights

Once upon a time, Christmas was the only time to hang lights. Connect up to three sets of these and drape your house for the Halloween season.

Who wants an ordinary yard this time of year when you can have a graveyard? The eyes flash blood-red on the 9" plastic skull that is mounted on this foam tombstone. Battery operated with on/off switch, this decoration is indoor/outdoor.

Halloween Lanterns

These Halloween lanterns are great to either decorate your home or to carry in Baltimore's Halloween Lantern Parade.

Huge Skeleton with LED Light Eyes

You could be the only one on the block with a 14-foot shadow of death to greet trick-or-treaters. Tattered fabric, faux chains and flashing red eyes adorn the battery operated skeleton.

Pack of 6 Vampire Snoopy Jack-O-Lantern Bubble Night Lights

If you're more into cute than scary, then these Snoopy bubble lights are the way to go. And they are retro too, well, sort of. I bet your grandmother never had vampire Snoopy lights on her tree.

Edwardian Halloween Butler

Spooky, life-sized figure boasts realistic details such as moving eyes, turning head, moaning and groaning noises. Yes, but will he polish the silver too? Probably not.

If gruesome is not your style but you'd still like to hop on the Halloween decorating bandwagon, these adorable tea light candle holders will brighten any room.

Protect your property with these fierce dragon heads. Add your own dry ice to the resin skulls to get the spooky smoke effect.

Fog Machines

OK, fog machines are way over the top. But this is Baltimore, after all, and over-the-top is part of the local culture. Click here to compare several different models that promise instant spookiness.
