July 2009 Baltimore Calendar of Events

July is packed full of events in Baltimore. From the spectacular firework celebration in the Inner Harbor to Artscape, July brings with it an abundance of fun festivals and concerts all around Charm City.

||African American Heritage Festival||
July 3-5, 2009

Camden Yards is the setting for this annual festival, which kicks off July 3 at 4 p.m., and at noon the 4th and the 5th.

||July 4 Fireworks||
July 4, 2009, all day

The Inner Harbor is the place to be for Baltimore's spectacular fireworks display. There are an abundance of parties and places from which to watch the show. Fireworks start at 9:30.

||Convergance 09 opens at the Maryland Art Place||
July 7, 2009

Work by recent graduates of the Maryland Institute College of Art, University of Maryland, Towson University and UMBC is on display. A gallery talk with featured artists takes place on July 10 at 6 p.m., with a reception to follow at the Power Plant Live! gallery.

||Caribbean Carnival Festival||
July 10-12, 2009

Food, sound, and dance from the Caribbean takes over Druid Hill Park.

||BSO performs the music of Disney||
July 17, 2009

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra performs selections from Disney favorites while images from movies including Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, and The Lion King are projected on a screen above the orchestra. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Meyerhoff. Tickets range from $12.50 to $55 and can be purchased online or by calling 410-783-8000.

||Artscape||
July 17-19, 2009

Artscape touts itself as "America's largest free public arts festival." The weekend brings nationally-known bands, the best food vendors from throughout the city, and a collection of artists and art that is second to none. The fun begins at noon each day at Mount Royal Ave. and Cathedral and Charles streets. Admission is free.

||The Bob Dylan Show, featuring Willie Nelson, and John Mellencamp||
July 24, 2009, 5 p.m.

Three legends team together for this concert at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen. Tickets are $67.50 plus the standard messload of fees. They can be purchased online through Ticketmaster.

||World Football Challenge at M&T Bank Stadium||
July 24, 2009, 6:30 p.m.

First things first: Football, in this case, is soccer. Two of the world's greatest clubs, AC Milan and Chelsea FC face off as part of the World Football Challenge, a six-city round-robin tournament being played in the United States this summer. This game is the only one taking place on the east coast. Tickets start at $35 and are available online.

||BSO performs music by John Williams||

July 25, 2009, 8 p.m.

The BSO concludes its 2009 summer season at Oregon Ridge State Park by performing music from legendary composer John Williams. Themes from the movies Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Jaws are on the schedule. The concert will open with the National Anthem, sung by 15-year-old twins Lauren and Lindsay Satterfield, winners of the orchestra's "o Say Can You Sing" contest. Tickets are $9 for children and $18 for adults, and can be purchased online or by calling 410-783-8000.
