Captain James Crab House in Canton in located directly on the water. It serves fresh, hot, tasty blue crabs, and a recent renovation included an impressive bar. It's one of Baltimore City's best crab houses, and a place that warrants a return trip if you haven't been in a while.

Guide Review - Captain James Crab House
There are a few basic needs every authentic Maryland crab house must deliver. Fat, hot, fresh blues certainly is one. Check for Captain James.
Pitchers of cold beer? Check.
Available extras like large spiced, steamed shrimp? Check.
Where Captain James excels is in the final category: setting. There's just no way to beat cracking claws on picnic tables perched on a deck directly above the water. Whether you're outside or "in" (a covered portion of the deck with ceiling fans), an afternoon or evening at Captain James is time well spent.
The restaurant underwent a renovation in 2010, adding a very cool bar, new bathrooms, and a few other nice touches. It's neither bare bones nor luxurious, and I can't speak to it's sister restaurant, the "famous" Canton ship across Aliceanna St.
What I can promise is that a trip to Captain James Crab House will deliver on the necessities, while throwing in a few perks along the way. Happy cracking.
