India Rasoi Restaurant Review

About.com Rating 3

By Mike Unger, About.com

What's India Rasoi doing in the middle of Baltimore's Little Italy neighborhood? I still don't know the answer to that, but I do know this: the family-run Indian restaurant has subsisted for years now because of its honest, straight-forward authentic food.

Pros

  • Authentic, flavorful food
  • Attentive service
  • Wide ranging menu
  • Delivers

Cons

  • Ambiance can be lacking
  • Some dishes can lack a bit of spiciness. Be sure to ask your server if you want that extra kick

    Guide Review - India Rasoi

Once you get over its location - Little Italy, huh? - you'll be able to sit back, relax, and enjoy India Rasoi, which serves some of the best Indian food in the city.

The down-home, no-frills dining room differentiates India Rasoi from its more snazzy Little Italy neighbors, but the quality and authenticity of its ethnic cuisine is in keeping with the neighborhood's tradition.

Start with the plump, perfectly fried vegetable samosa. Filled with steaming hot potatoes, peas, and other vegetables, one order (one samosa) is large enough for two people to split.

The menu boasts an extensive list of meat, vegetable, chicken, and seafood selections. The chicken badam pasanda is a flavorful boneless chicken breast marinated lightly browned and simmered in a creamy almond sauce. The fish curry, while less spicy, features plump, fresh pieces of marinated fish, grilled and curried in sauce sprinkled with fresh coriander leaves. Both are winners.

An entire offering of sizzling specialties rounds out the menu, which also has numerous traditional Indian breads. The garlic naan, unleavened white bread with fresh garlic and coriander, is delicious.

Wash it all down with an Indian or domestic beer, or a glass of wine. A quick tip - Be sure to check India Rasoi's Web site for coupons.
