Unlike the nearby Inner Harbor restaurants, these are mostly family-owned eateries. Narrow streets and close quarters make parking tricky. In fact if you're undecided about your dining destination, it's probably just easiest to park in a garage and walk until you find an eatery that suits you.

If you're a planner, however, check out this list of Little Italy's best known spots. The advantage is that many restaurants have parking.

In the summer, catch a flick under the stars at the Little Italy Film Festival.

Aldo's

306 S. High St.
410-727-0700
Dinner entrees $19-$45

Dine in a luxurious palazzo-like setting enjoying dishes made with organic and often local ingredients. While Aldo's describes its offerings as "southern-influenced regional Italian cuisine," look for a lot more than pastas doused red sauce. The house's signature dish is foie gras-wrapped tournedos Rossini with wild mushroom sauce.

Amicci's of Little Italy

231 S. High St.
410-528-1096
Dinner entrees $14-$19

Known for its comfy, affordable dining, Amicci's is great for families. Its appetizer Pane Rotundo, a round Italian loaf of bread, toasted with garlic butter and filled with jumbo shrimp scampi, is enough to share. And if family time isn't what you had in mind, its bar serves a full menu everyday and late night.

Boccaccio

925 Eastern Ave.
410-234-1322
Dinner entrees $20-$36

Boccacio's northern Italian cuisine favors ingredients -- like potatoes, butter and cabbage -- not as likely to be found on southern-influenced menus. The formal setting and elegant, seasonal menu make it a favorite for special occasion dining.

Caesar's Den

223 S. High St.
410-547-0820
Dinner entrees $14-$29

Serving traditional Neapolitan fare, Caesar's Den is known for its grilled entrees. Like most of its offerings, these flame-cooked dishes are simple preparations, often involving only a few ingredients, with complex flavors.

Chiapparelli's

237 S. High St.
410-837-0309
Dinner entrees $15-$30

Spacious Little Italy stalwart serves classic Italian fare in heaping portions. Customize your own pasta dish choosing pasta, meat and sauce. Childrens' menu available.

Dalesio's of Little Italy

829 Eastern Ave.
410-539-1965
Dinner entrees $16-$28

Light on the sauces heavy on the decor, Dalesio's offers California-influenced Italian fare in a Victorian-style dining.

Da Mimmo

217 S. High St.
410-727-6876
Dinner entrees $20-$35

A gigantic broiled veal chop is this family-run eatery's signature dish. But you'll also find plenty of traditional pasta dishes including fettucine Alfredo, spaghetti Bolognese, linguine alla carbonara and eggplant Parmigiana.

Della Notte of Little Italy

801 Eastern Ave.
410-837-5500
Dinner entrees $21 - $39

Behind the imposing neo-classical facade on President Street lies a Mediterranean villa-style setting serving contemporary and classic Italian cuisine. In the lounge a piano bar entertains, and a Sunday jazz brunch offers American breakfast favorites and traditional Italian fare. More Brunches in Baltimore .

La Scala

1012 Eastern Ave.
410-783-9209
Dinner entrees $15-$28

Traditional Italian cuisine, innovative specialties and now an indoor bocce ball court. What else could you want? Well, how about taking home some of the fresh mozzarella di bufala or prosciutto di Parma from its Italian market Il Scalino just around the corner.
