The 2007 Kennedy Krieger Institute Festival of Trees shows off more than 500 ornately decorated trees, wreaths and gingerbread houses while providing family entertainment like dance troupes and local choirs, toy trains, a kids fun zone featuring mini-golf and holiday shopping.

The local artists, businesses and community groups, who decorate the trees, compete for awards in various categories. The event raises money for research, treatment and educational programs at Kennedy Krieger Institute.

When: Nov. 23-25
Where: Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium
Cost: $10 adults; $5 children 5-12 and seniors; 4 and under free
things to do at the event include:

  • Rock with Milkshake. Featured on Nickelodeon, the children’s rock band Milkshake kicks off the Festival of Trees.
  • Enjoy hourly live entertainment. The annual event includes comedy, puppeteers, performances by local dance troupes and a choreographed jump rope team. On Saturday night, retired Oriole B.J. Surhoff will deliver a holiday tale, while a local theatre group will perform parts of High School Musical.
  • Visit the expanded Santa Land with “Reindeer Rides” and mini golf. In addition to the carousel, carnival games and craft stations, look for pony rides on one of Santa’s “reindeer" and mini golf.
  • Drop letters to Santa in the "official" mailbox with express service to the North Pole.
  • Get some holiday shopping done. Children’s books and toys, clothing, jewelry and home décor are among the items for sale at the craft fair.
  • Admire the holiday train garden. More than 500 feet of track are part of the redesigned 40-foot-by-40-foot train garden, which includes locomotives chugging through winter terrain with snow-capped mountains and icy bridges.
