Christmas Tree Farms in Baltimore Area

A trip to a Baltimore-area Christmas tree farm is a sure way to get in the holiday spirit. When you get home from the Christmas tree farm, there's just nothing like the fragrance of fir, spruce or pine filling the house.

Below is an alphabetical roundup of Baltimore-area Christmas tree farms. It’s a good idea to call ahead, particularly if you have a certain variety in mind. So, pull on your grungiest work boots and create some Christmas memories.

Applewood Farm

Ever want to pet a reindeer? Well, here's your chance. Applewood Farm, located in Whiteford, Md., close to the Mason-Dixon line, offers a live reindeer experience for kids of all ages. But that's just the beginning of the fun: Applewood also has a miniature steam train ride, hayrides, pony rides and a petting zoo.

As for cut-your-own trees, the farm has Douglas fir at $5 per foot as well as blue spruce, white spruce, white pine and Scotch pine for $4 per foot. Drilling and shaking (optional) are an additional minimal charge.

During the Christmas season, the farm is open Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. - p.m., from Nov. 24 to Dec. 23.

Clemsonville Christmas Tree Farm

You'e got to love a place that holds the Guinness Book record for largest wreath. That honors goes to the Clemsonville Christmas Tree Farm for a Yule wreath that weighed in at a whopping 9,060 pounds.

While the wreath is no longer there—just pictures survive—there’s still plenty of tree cutting on the 200-acre farm.

And here’s a bonus: Santa himself comes down a large chimney at noon on Dec. 1!

The farm is open daily from Nov. 23 through Christmas Eve. Hours: weekdays from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

Feezers Farm

At Feezers, there’s a strong emphasis on cut-your-own organic Christmas trees. The Baltimore County farm never use pesticides, herbicides are harmful fertilizers. Feezers was founded in the 1970s, and there’s always a great selection of Douglas fir, white pine and Colorado blue spruce that you can cut yourself.

And if that’s not enough, there’s free hot chocolate for all.

The farm is open Friday through Sunday, from 8 a.m. until sunset.

Gaver Tree Farm

This Christmas tree farm was established in 1978 by Michael Gaver, then only 17, on 50 acres. Today, the farm is still owned and operated by the Gaver family and remains a great place to harvest the ideal holiday tree.

A Colorado blue spruce will run you about $50, Douglas and Canaan fir trees can be had for $40 and white pine is $30.

There’s also a not-to-miss wreath barn and a petting zoo.

The fun begins the day after Thanksgiving, and the farm is open daily from 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

Hickory Hill Tree Farm

There’s a little something for everyone at this place. There’s 71 acres of choose-and-cut trees, including Frasier, Douglas and Concolor fir, and blue and Norway spruce.

The little ones, can check out the candy-cane tree and get their pictures taken for free with Santa on the weekends.

The Harford County farm is open Monday through Friday from noon until 5 p.m. and on weekends from 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

Mayne's Tree Farm

Hike out or, on weekends, catch the hayride out to the fields to cut your own white pine, Norway spruce or Douglas fir. Or if you prefer choose your own pre-cut Christmas tree. This farm near Frederick, MD is open daily from 9 a.m - 5 p.m. from the Friday after Thanksgiving until December 23rd. Modlin's Christmas Tree Farm

Near Annapolis, Modlin’s has more than 40 acres of trees through which you can wander until you find the right Christmas tree. Varieties include Douglas and Fraser fir, white pine and blue spruce.

The farm, which opens its Christmas season on Nov. 23 (8 a.m. until dark), also sells wreaths, garland, poinsettias and many other holiday accessories. Modlin’s Christmas Tree Farm

Pine Valley Farms

Strolling among the thousands of trees at Pine Valley is enough to get your holiday juices flowing. There’s a vast selection of pre-cut trees and, of course, you can choose and cut your own. Varieties of cut-your-own include blue and Colorado blue spruce; Canaan, Douglas, Fraser and Concolor fir; white and Eastern white pine; and Leland cypress. Saws are provided.

Sewell's Farm

Located in historic Taneytown, Sewell’s is less than an hour’s drive from downtown Baltimore. The farm has been family-owned and operated since 1984 and offers 90 acres filled with Fraser, Douglas and Concolor fir as well as Norway and blue spruce.

Cut-your-own trees are $40 up to 8 foot, and priced individually for taller trees. And, according to the farm’s Web site, pets and chainsaws are a no-no.

The farm also serves up complimentary hot cider on the weekends and has a gift shop with crafts, collectibles and antique furniture.

The Christmas season runs daily from Nov. 23 through Dec. 23, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

Showvaker Quality Evergreens

There’s something wrong if you’re bored at this place. There’s a gigantic corn maze, petting zoo, kids’ play area and free hot drinks. And best of all there are Christmas trees just about everywhere you look.

Baling, shaking and loading are all free for cut-your-owns, which come in Fraser, Douglas and Concolor fir, blue spruce and white and Scotch pine varieties.

After you’ve worked up an appetite, check out the beautiful picnic area.

The farm is open for Christmas season right after Thanksgiving until Dec. 24. Hours of operations are weekdays from noon–5 p.m. and on weekends from 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

Thomas Tree Farm

Set on 65 acres in bucolic Manchester, Md., Thomas Tree Farm boasts a great selection of Christmas trees, including white pine, Douglas fir, Canaan fir, Concolor fir and blue spruce. And all trees—no matter how tall—are the same price: $33.34 plus tax with no additional fees for baling and shaking.

The farm, run by Wayne Thomas, also has a large selection of baled-and-burlaped trees, wreaths, greens, tree bags, tree stands, kissing balls, swags and holly.

During the holidays, Thomas Tree Farm is open daily from Nov. 16 through Christmas Day, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
