Fall Fun in Baltimore

By Laureen Miles Brunelli, About.com

Looking for fall fun? These Baltimore-area farms have something for both kids and adults. Find corn mazes, pumpkin patches, petting zoos, hayrides, apple picking, Halloween activities and more. In the summer many of these are pick-your-own farms for berries, fruit and veggies. Some have PYO apples in the fall.

Most are only open on weekends. Call for hours, admission and pick-your-own and farm produce availability. While some close up after Halloween many are open all year. Shop for produce, baked goods and even fresh turkeys for your Thanksgiving or holiday dinner. And some have cut-your-own Christmas trees.

Before Halloween, pick a pumpkin, get lost in a haunted maze or ride the "Ghost Train." Applewood takes a short break from the fun during November but ramps up for Christmas as soon as Thanksgiving is over. Cut-your-own Christmas trees, Christmas train rides, visits from Santa, holiday light displays and reindeer activities. Yes, reindeer! Applewood has a small herd of reindeer in addition to its other farm animal and pony rides.

Sure, you can sit down in the restaurant and enjoy a home-style meal, but don't forget about all the goodies in the market. Indulge in homemade ice cream, fresh baked goods, jellies, jams, fruits and vegetables. A free petting zoo, playground and wagon rides will keep the kids busy.

While the big pick-your-own season is summer, when strawberries, peaches, and cherries are available you can also pick your own Halloween pumpkin in the fall. For Thanksgiving, order your holiday pies here.

Order custom table decorations for your Thanksgiving table or get holiday greens during the Christmas season.
