O'Malley Inauguration

by Laureen Miles Brunelli
for About.com

Baltimore Mayor Martin O’Malley and Anthony Brown, delegate in the Maryland General Assembly, are sworn in at noon Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, as Maryland’s governor and lieutenant governor. Though the ceremony is in Annapolis, the party is later that night in the Baltimore Convention Center.

In contrast to the outgoing governor’s inaugural fête four year ago, a $250-a-head affair, the O’Malley-Brown celebration is a more affordable gala. As many as 8,000 people are expected to pay $50 to attend the black-tie-optional event, which will feature food from more than 70 of the state’s restaurants.
