Baltimore Summer Camps

While "camp" was once considered an outdoor experience, many kids, and their parents, prefer indoor summer pursuits, given the muggy weather in Maryland. Many of the museum and general camps offer a little of both, scheduling inside and outside activities.



General Day Camps

Description: Boys and girls participate in a wide variety of sports activities such as softball, soccer, soft stick lacrosse and tennis on the College of Notre Dame's 58-acre wooded campus. Swimming is held twice a day in an indoor pool. Music, drama, and arts and crafts are also a part of the curriculum.

Description: Traditional day camp for boys and girls ages 4 to 8 offers daily swimming and art plus special guests, martial arts, fencing and archery. Senior camp for ages 9 to 15 offers swimming, sports, art, eco-venture, fencing, archery, martial arts, cooking, dance, filmmaking, songwriting, concept car design and drama. Sports camps, ages 7 to 14, feature a different sport each week including tennis, golf, lacrosse, swimming, European team handball, soccer, baseball, basketball, street hockey and flag football.

Description: Though not affiliated with Towson University, Camp Bravo is located on the university's grounds. Activities include cheerleading, puppetry, dance, needlepoint, story theater, crafts, kickball, dodgeball, basketball, volleyball, soccer, science and field trips. Bus service available for a fee. Two four-week sessions.

St. Paul Summer Camp

Description: Day campers enjoy instructional and free swims, sports, arts and free play. Sports and specialty camp programs for ages 7 to 14 include baseball (boys), basketball, lacrosse (boys), soccer, tennis, bowling, biking, football, drawing, storytelling, natural art, web design, video production, science, dance, remote control cars, woodworking, digetal photography, Harry Potter and rocketry. Discounts for multiple weeks.

Description:Part of an extensive program of camps organized by YMCA of Central Maryland, this program takes place at Sandy Point State Park. Buses transport campers form 4 different drop-off points. Camp activities include canoeing, crabbing, fishing, daily swimming, sports, field trips and art.

Description: Part of an extensive program of camps organized by YMCA of Central Maryland, Harford County's YMCA offers camps at seven locations in Aberdeen, Bel Air, Joppa, Abington and Fallston. Some camps are at Y locations and elementary schools, but the Camp Millstad location is a traditional camp.

Description: Part of an extensive program of camps organized by YMCA of Central Maryland, the Towson YMCA Family Branch runs a variety of specialized camps. These include environmental science, soccer, dance, Weigh Smart Camp and leaders in training.

Freestate Indoor Sports Summer Camp

Cost per week: $195 (full day), $100 (half day) The Description: Freestate Sports Arena in White Marsh offers traditional yet sports-focused day camps that include an inflatable water park, air-conditioned soft play area, arts and crafts, volleyball, soccer, roller hockey, basketball and hockey. Additional weeks and siblings receive discount.
