Sure you can buy a Christmas tree in a store or a parking lot, but nothing beats a trip to a Christmas Tree Farm near Baltimore to get you into the holiday spirit. Maryland has several Christmas tree farms where you can select, then chop down your perfect tree.
Here's an alphabetical roundup of Baltimore-area Christmas tree farms. It's a good idea to call ahead, particularly if you have a certain variety in mind.
Applewood Farm, in Whiteford, Md., has more than just trees. It offers pony rides, a petting zoo, a miniature steam train ride, and hayrides.
In the Christmas tree department, the farm has Douglas firs at $5 per foot as well as blue spruce, white spruce, and Scotch pines for $4 per foot. Fresh-cut Fraser Fir 7- to 8-foot-trees start at $60.00 per tree plus tax.
During the Christmas season, the farm is open Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., from Nov. 24 to Dec. 23.
4435 Prospect Road
The farm, open every day through Christmas Eve, holds the Guinness Book of World Records mark for the largest wreath.
While it's no longer there — just pictures survive — there’s still plenty of tree cutting on the 200-acre farm.
The farm is open daily from Nov. 27 through Christmas Eve. Hours: Weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Organically grown Christmas trees are the specialty at this Baltimore County farm.
It never use pesticides, herbicides are harmful fertilizers. Feezers was founded in the 1970s, and there’s always a great selection of Douglas fir, white pine and Colorado blue spruce that you can cut yourself. All that, plus there's always free hot chocolate.
The farm is open Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
3700 Wards Chapel Rd.
Eestablished in 1978 by then 17-year-old Michael Gaver, the farm is set on 50 beautiful acres. Today, it is still owned and operated by the Gaver family and remains a great place to harvest the ideal holiday tree.
A Colorado blue spruce will run you about $60, Douglas and Canaan fir trees can be had for $40 and white pine is $30. You can also pick out a tree from the pre-cut area.
The farm includes a wreath shop and petting zoo.

Modlin’s has more than 40 acres of trees, including Douglas and Fraser firs, white pine and blue spruce.
Located near Annapolis, the farm also sells wreaths, garland, poinsettias and many other holiday accessories.
Modlin's Christmas Tree Farm is open daily from 8:30 a.m. until dusk.
Anne Arundel County
5910 Little Rd.
Pine Valley features a vast selection of pre-cut trees and, of course, thousands you can choose and cut your own. Varieties of cut-your-own include blue and Colorado blue spruce; Canaan, Douglas, Fraser and Concolor fir; white and Eastern white pine; and Leland cypress. Saws are provided.

Located in historic Taneytown, Sewell’s is less than an hour drive from downtown Baltimore. The farm has been family-owned and operated since 1984 and offers 90 acres filled with Fraser, Douglas and Concolor fir as well as Norway and blue spruce.
Cut-your-own trees are $40 up to 8 foot, and priced individually for taller trees. Pets and chainsaws are prohibited.
The farm also serves up complimentary hot cider on the weekends and has a gift shop with crafts, collectibles and antique furniture. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are available at the country grill on weekends.
Sewell's is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Dec. 22

There’s a gigantic corn maze, petting zoo, kids’ play area and free hot drinks. Lest we forget - there are Christmas trees just about everywhere you look.
Baling, shaking and loading are all free for cut-your-owns, which come in Fraser, Douglas and Concolor fir, blue spruce and white and Scotch pine varieties.
Showvaker's is open weekdays from noon to 5 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
2020 Garrett Rd.
Set on 65 acres in scenic Manchester, Md., Thomas Tree Farm boasts a great selection of Christmas trees, including white pine, Douglas fir, Canaan fir, Concolor fir and blue spruce. All trees are the same price: $37.74 plus tax with no additional fees for baling and shaking.
The farm also has a large selection of baled-and-burlaped trees, wreaths, greens, tree bags, tree stands, kissing balls, swags and holly.
During the holidays, Thomas Tree Farm is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
